"VBS:Banker-EA[Trj]" Found in SOFTWARE.LOG2

Hello,

I recently ran a full system scan using Avast, and it came back telling me that a virus had been found.

It was found in:

C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE.LOG2

And has been labelled as:

Threat:VBS:Banker-EA[Trj]

The file has been unable to be moved to the virus chest or deleted because, as I’ve seen, it is being used. After many unsuccessful attempts of using programs to delete the file during a reboot, I’ve decided to come here for help. I’ve attached the requested files, please let me know if anything else is needed.

Thanks,
Rory

if able to, upload and test file at www.virustotal.com if tested before, click rescan for a fresh result
Post link to scan result here

Sorry, can’t seem to find the file at all when attempting to open it up. I can confirm, however, that it is still on my system.

Anything else I can try to upload it to?

a malware expert will assist you later today …

Hmm this may be a false positive… After these two programmes have run see if Avast still detects it

CAUTION : This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CreateRestorePoint: Reg: reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local /f Reg: reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local /f RemoveProxy: EmptyTemp: CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S0].txt as well.

Alright, have ran both FRST and AdwCleaner. You should find both of the log files attached.

For AdwCleaner, the saved file was titled “AdwCleaner[C1]” not “AdwCleaner[S0]”. It also saved a few other .txt files, titled “AdwCleaner[S1]”, “AdwCleaner[S2]” and “Quarantine”. I will attach those as well in another post if you need them.

Those logs are good

Could you see if Avast still detects it

I have scanned the entire System32 folder as well as the file individually with Avast, and it seems to not detect it anymore.

A false positive is what you suspect? And I seriously appreciate the help by the way.

My pleasure … Any further problems ?

That’s it man.

Again, thanks for the help.

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
