VBS:ExeDropper-gen [Trj]

Hey, so every single html file in my hard disk, about 18,000 of them are infected with this VB code:

These are all discovered by my avast scan and yet not a single file can be repaired. Does anyone know why? I would have thought plain text stuff like this is the easiest to repair?
Also, if they can’t be repaired does anyone know if I can write a script to delete this text on all my html files?

Please modify your post, removing the actual code and replace with this image, that ensures there is no possibility of avast actually alerting on the forum page.

avast can only repair actual virus infections that it has a repair routine for and unfortunately this doesn’t come under that category.

I don’t know what these html files are for, if just general browsing surely the best thing for all concerned is to clear your browser cache.

If you created them web site stuff, etc. then surely your html editor should be able to do a find and replace on the script tag. A long time ago when I did some web site design, I used to use HTMLkit and that had a fairly powerful find and replace, it could do batch editing. It also allowed for the use of wildcards so you didn’t have to type the complete text just entering the opening and closing tags and enough of the initial data so it found the unique script and replacing it wilt a blank line.

Edit: More importantly you need to find out what did the insertion of this code or it could be back, and you didn’t mention avast detection anything other than these html files.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).

Don’t worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.
Also available a portable version of SAS, http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html, no installation required.
