Thanks for help Essexboy and Steven, I added logs just in case.

My entire system just crashed and wouldn’t respond, I had to force restart, don’t know if it is related or just an odd coincidence.

Logs are clean, the crash may have been coincidental. What programme were you running at the time ?

Firefox, checking the windows error logs says something about a corrupt catalog and something about search.tripoliindexer plugin not being initalised

Can you make a screen shot of these messages? That would be helpful.

You can use Snipping Tool for that, just search in charms bar for it.

Do you use Crapcleaner ?

Being a long-time user of Piriform CCleaner, it appears one of the recent updates changed or added an item labled "MS Search" under 'Applications' > 'Windows'. Upon unchecking this option in the settings of CCleaner, I am no longer experiencing the symptoms posted above.

Crapcleaner is better known as CCleaner.

Yeh I use ccleaner. Added a few of those screencaps Steven just in case

Unticking that option from CC should stop those errors

So the crash was just coincidental and nothing to do with an infection?

Correct, the system looks nice and clean. Although IE could do with updating to IE 11

Cheers for help my daughters where panicking when the laptop froze on them. Guess there’s still bugs with Windows 8.1

Sorry i’m bothering you all a lot today but the difference between the amount scanned is rather large my last full scan yesterday was 55.2GB but now its dropped to 52.7GB, I can’t of any reason why it would do this in just one day, but any help would be appreciated

It depend on whether the temporary files have been emptied and whether or not Avast has marked some files as safe and they have not been modified since the last scan.

Out of curiosity how often do you scan ? I have mine set to screensaver scan otherwise I may scan once every two months or so (if I remember). As the main protection is provided by the on access elements of Avast that are running all the time

Its my daughters laptop she usually does a full scan at end of every week, give or take, usually depends how much shes on it.

As the number of scans progress then files that have already been scanned and have not been modified or accessed will not be scanned, hence the scan will be quicker and less files will be scanned

Cheers for help buddy. Big thanks from myself and my daughter.

No problem that is what we are here for
