i have the vbs.redlof.a virus on my computer, and it is really frustrating me. i’ve read lots of forums but still can’t find out how to fix it. my antivirus program will notify me of it, but can’t detect it if i run a system scan, and it says it can’t fix it when it notifies me. when i look for the file it says is infected when it notifies me, it’s not there. i really don’t want to do a lot of manual deleting and changing (i don’t know if i could since i can’t even find the file that’s infected), so i’d like to know an easy way to get rid of it, or a virus removal tool. if not, i’d like to know how to find it and get rid of it myself
Hi,
I didn’t find a special tool…
which WIN do you have ?
if ME or XP, maybe it’S enough to disable RESTORE and reboot
Which Virusscanner detects it ?
Where exactly was it found ? (full path folder/filename, like C:\windows\system32.. )
Info:
http://www.virusbtn.com/resources/vgrep/vgrep.cgi?terms=vbs.redlof.a&product=11
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.redlof.a.html
I have XP, so thank you, i’ll see if that works.
I have Norton Antivirus on my computer, and it says the virus is in:
C:\Documents and Settings\blake\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\EFIZI563\p10[1].htm
Well, no luck. I disabled System Restore and rebooted, but i still have the virus. Any other ideas as to what i might do?
It is also found in …p10[2] p10[3] and p10[4]
Hi,
close all programs and browser windows, then
Control panel → Internetoptions → General → Delete (Temp-.Int.) files → Check “Offline files” → OK
that’s it…
please also read the above descriptions on redlof, and secure your system and Browser
Thanks for the help, i’ll do that.
I’ve tried deleting all the temporary files when i had the browser open, i guess that was why it didn’t work. I didn’t know i was able to do that w/ the browser closed, i guess that was my problem.
Hi,
Download the free smartcop virus scanner from the site www-s-cop.com. Disable Avast and run the smartcop virus scanner and see if it is able to clean or delete your infected files.
You could also try nod32 for dos from the site www.nod32.com.
Make sure you disable Avast when using another antivirus. I heard that Avast will create problems when you try to install another antivirus when it is resident.
Regards,
Balaji.
