Hi

I updated all my computers with this new version and I have a problem

regardless of taking the hand on my computer with VNC (UltraVNC) or LogMeIn, when I open the Avast program or make a scan on a folder, I cannot use more the computer remotely

I can only see the screen, and if someone is using it in front of the computer it’s ok, but remotely I can’t do anything until the Avast Window is close…

Hope you will correct that very quickly

Yes we are aware of this issue and we will release microupdate this week.

I updated to Avast 17.8.2318 on 2 computers running latest fast ring insider preview Redstone 4 Windows 10 Build 17035 and both computers keep crashing with a green screen and will not let Windows start!

Luckily I was able to restore the previous build “17025” and then install Avast update 17.8.2318 and then update to Windows 10 build 17035 again and this time Windows starts just fine on both computers after restart.

So there seems to be a major issue with Windows 10 Build 17035 and Avast 17.8.28 when updating and restarting the computer.

Thanks for version 17.8.2318, it seems to update and run fine on Windows XP. I did get the infamous “UI Failed to load” message on the first reboot, but subsequent reboots loaded it without trouble.

My custom settings were not wiped out.

Smart Scan is still unable to scan for “compatibility issues”, as previously reported here and here.

It would be nice to be able to rescan files from within the Virus Chest, as was possible in old versions. In fact, right-clicking used to offer all sorts of useful options which we no longer have (see attached picture, nostalgically ;)).

When informing about the availability of version 17.8.2318, the user interface is calling it a “Security update” instead of a “New version” (see attached screenshot). This is confusing. In my experience, the term “security update” is used when the update fixes a security bug (or “hole”) in the software. This does not appear to be the case with version 17.8.2318 - the fixes listed are all related to functionality.

Totally agree on the Security Update, I did a double take when I saw this message.

This is a program update, not a security update, that I would have expected to have been done on a micro update or emergency update. Not to mention there is nothing mentioned in the change log about this being a security update, or nothing listed relating to security.

The same system environment:windows10 X64 pro 1703 with last update. and comodo firewall 10.0.2.6396 installed.
then Install avast_free_antivirus ver17.7.3660.0,This did not happen。then direct upgrade to ver17.8.2318, “Your license is not valid” appearing again. There is a clear difference between the two versions.

Avast Status still listed as unavailable in the Windows Security Center. Other than that, all good.

Regarding the compatibilty scan, please turn it off in the settings, then on again and save the settings, then it should work.
We are working on adding the scan option back to chest. It might be in Dec or Jan release.
You are right about the warning about new version, we will lower a priority of this message.

Hi Martin, just tried it, it didn’t help.

Just installed the new Avast v.17.8.2318 free edition.

Now, when I perform a Smart Scan, it is checking for Sensitive Data, which is a paid module that I have not paid for. Please can anyone explain this behaviour or explain how I turn off checking for Sensitive Data?

I add information, I updated computers to the latest one, the 17.8.2318 (Build 17.8.3705.0) and it’s still the same problem

When the Avast program have a Window opened (Main Window or popup window) and using a remote software to the computer, I am unable to use the computer

Easy to explain, Avast are hoping that you will upgrade to include this paid component.

Open your Smart Scan settings - AvastUI > Settings > General > Smart Scan - check what you have listed to be scanned and switch off what you don’t want.

You may also want to check the AvastUI > Settings > Components and uninstall those you don’t need/want.

It didn’t work here either.

Seems, this update full of problems
1.Avast randomly disable with red cross “you are not protected” message,
need to open avast user interface which hangs for sometimes before it fully open and it will enable the protection back itself
2.my laptop boot a lot slower after I install this update
3.windows defender security center now showing red cross randomly and ask to restart protection which actually activating windows defender, which will hang the laptop for a few second, than windows defender will goes active for a second before goes off again and get’s replace with the “usual normal message” : status unavailable, open avast antivirus for information.

uninstall and re-install with same result, so uninstalling and replacing with Kaspersky free for the time being till there a new version release or a fix release

Same problem here with 17035 (RS4).
After remove of avast 17.8.2318 in save mode, startup 17035 just fine.
Others with this problem in RS4 ?
Superman1975 do you have already a solution for this bug ?

Hi there,

Having a lot of problems after installing avast internet security. Very often avast tells me that my computer is noet secured.
I have a license for 3 computers, one which I installed a while ago works fine, the other 2 are giving me troubles because I think they are not really linked to the account. The are visible but avast is not showing any informations about these 2 computers. Message “Nous sommes désolés, mais les informations détaillées pour l’appareil DESKTOP-… ne sont pas disponibles actuellement”.
Hope someone can help me, thanks !!!

Installed on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Process Explorer shows that AvastSvc.exe is using a full core. Why is a background service using so much of the CPU? Service is not responding to shutdown request from the Windows Service MMC.

Even if there is a lack of information in your Avast account, this does not mean your computer is not secured. Those seem like two separate problems. Please start a new topic or topics either here (Internet Security, English), here (Avast Account, English), or here (Everything, French) with details such as when and where you see alert messages, how you are accessing your Avast Account, with screenshots if possible.
