Updated yesterday and the Web shield blocks the Web pages of trusted sites, like NYTimes, Internet Archive, some Wikipedia sites etc. They appear as text only. I had to disable the Web shield which makes the software pretty much useless. All of these sites use “https://” secure connection, and I tried to add them to the exclusion list but the software keeps appending “http://” to the beginning of the exclusion and ends up like: “http://https://archive.org.” I must assume that “https:” websites cannot be added to the exclusion list. What a I doing wrong?
What popups are being shown if avast is blocking these websites ? if you are seeing text then the site isn’t blocked and I suspect it is more like the browser protection ( AOS ) that is causing the problem.
Try disabling AOS by right clicking your browsers toolbar and untick browser protection.
Also re-enable Webshield.
Thanks for your quick reply and should have mentioned that I am using Firefox v27.0.1 in Windows XP SP3. Not knowing what AOS is, I googled the web and found AhnLab Online Security (OAS). Is this what you’re referring to? because I don’t have this software installed.
AOS = Avast Online Security, you can disable in your browsers addons " I’m not sure what it’s called in Firefox " you should be able to disable it by right clicking your browsers toolbar and untick browser protection or AOS depending on what it is called in your browser.
Thanks again craigb. There is no Avast software installed in the addons. Also, I have the free version.
Unless you have already disabled it or removed the feature during install then it should be there, another way to remove it is to Add/Remove programs and click to uninstall avast and when you get the popup screen choose “change” and on the next screen you’ll be given the option to remove unwanted features - if Browser Protection is ticked then untick it.
I can’t thank you enough for your patient instructions. I did as told and the the browser loads much faster and images are accessible. Have a beautiful day.
