Version 7.01474165 just hangs on Windows 7

When I go to task manger, it shows that the program is running, yet it does not appear in my system tray, nor does it open when I click on the icon from the Program Manager and / or Desktop.

I have uninstalled via safe mode and then reinstalled with no luck.

I am running Windows 7 SP 1.

Any other security program that could be interfering? Old antivirus before avast? Firewall?

Version 7.01474165? You mean 7.0.1474? Free, Pro or Suite?

Free version. I removed Avira and Spybot. I have MBAM, but it is not running.

After the reinstall of Avast, it did the system scan, said it found no viruses. But when I go to click it it, nothing happens.

Attached is my OTL log.

And the extras.txt file

Windows 7 is weird when it comes to the notifications section of the task bar. Sometime programs just disappear from there even if they are running. Right click on task bar, left click on Properties, Left click on Customize. scroll down to avast and make sure that it says "show icon and notificatgions under Behaviors. If not change it to say that. Then reboot. Even though a program is running it won’t show in the notifications area of the taskbar if it is not set to show icons. Clicking on the program to run it when the program is already running will not help. You need to change the Behaviors to say show icon and notifications and then probably reboot.

Windows 7 for some reason from time to time will just change the Behaviors and the icon will stop appearing.

hi metrotheme,

Here is a website with the complete removal tools for all prior uninstalled a/v’s http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/

Might be a good idea to ensure no remnants are left of old a/v’s. Stick with your post for a bit to see if a malware expert can say if your system is clean. The expert should report back within 24 hours.

Thank you, I wiped out the other programs, but still no luck.

OK, gone and notified a malware expert to have a look here. Please be patient.

Looks like a partial zero access install

Avast! now works?

i cant find
“C:\Windows\Installer{6c92256a-9999-21e8-c9ef-7e01b30a220a}”
i only see 6A and 6E

hi,

Download a fresh new copy of your version here: http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Suggest you not go anywhere else to get it.

I installed the version you sent to me, and it still doesn’t load. I click on the program, I get the blue circle for about three seconds, then the circle disappears and no interface. AvastUI.exe is running in my task manager, but only at the size of 1,944K. I have no success with using the repair function either.

How is the computer behaving now … Is Avast installing ?
