The program installs, but when I click on the program, it refuses to run. I click on it, a blue circle appears for like 5 seconds and then the program doesn’t load.
OK now the malware has gone uninstall Avast
Run aswClear http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
Then install the fresh copy that you have
Re-installed fresh copy, still will not load.
Downloaded TDSSKiller and it found a rookit, which it wiped out. When I rebooted, Avast loaded.
OK that is a brand new one, I will need to keep my eye open for that … Checking at Kaspersky they added that to TDSSKiller last night… Reading up on it now
OK I now know what to look for, how is the computer now ?
Avast is running so far so good.
Subject to no further problems ![]()
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean ![]()
A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the “x” and “/”)
then click OK
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg
[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled
Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.
We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
[*]Click Start.
[*]Open My Computer.
[*]Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
[*]Select the View Tab.
[*]Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
[]Click Yes to confirm.
[]Click OK.
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/7729/mbamicontw5.gif
Malwarebytes.
Update and run weekly to keep your system clean
Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
[*]Microsoft Windows Update

@ BlueNote,
Since every fix proposed by essexboy and others is tailor made just for the system in need of repair, following anothers’ repair thread can result in permanent damage to your system if you do not know what you are doing when very strong tools such as Combofix and others are used. Damage such as a broken os install can result.
Suggest you create your own topic by going to the ‘viruses and worm section’ while logged in and looking for “NEW TOPIC” button at upper right of this ‘viruses and worms’ board and start your own topic. Click that and start your own thread with a description of your symptoms and what you have done so far to fix your issue(s). Follow the instructions to attach the logs for AdwCleaner, Malwarebytes, OTL, and aswMBR.exe. Do not attempt to fix anything, wait for a malware expert to join to guide you through cleansing of your system. Stronger tools are only recommended to be used when the malware expert tells you to.
Doing otherwise can get you in serious trouble, and could result in the loss of all your personal files.
EDIT: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0 to find the main board at the top of this page where this “NEW TOPIC” link will appear.
Your post here will likely not get the attention you need and deserve until you create your own thread.
