Version 7 makes Windows XP hang forever when loading personal settings

Hi,

Since I have updated to 7 my XP machines just hangs when loading personal settings after login.
All profiles are local, not roaming.
When I disable the Avast Service then everything works fine.

It also takes ages when starting programs. To start FF takes about 2 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rob

  1. avast! GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting → Enable: “Load avast! services only after other system services”
  2. Click OK.
  3. Reboot.

Not experiencing that problem on this XP Pro system, firefox loads in 8 seconds and I have oodles of add-ons.

What other security software do you have installed ?

I don’t have a lot of confidence in the above suggestion as that would in theory shave less than a second of boot, not to mention you are experiencing problems outside of boot with firefox. But it won’t hurt to try.

If it doesn’t work I would suggest you try a clean reinstall.

In fact it works fine again by disabling the cloud reputation service.
All the rest can remain with default settings.

As soon as the reputation service is enabled it gets stuck.

Interesting, as I have no problems here.

  • Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS)
  • Which version…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??

Same issue happened me today. NOT on the FIRST machine so I went ahead and uninstalled old AVAST from all remaining machines and on almost every machine since then had this “HUNG after login”.

Disabled CLOUD stuff and enabled “LOAD AFTER OTHER SERVICES” and so far so good
