May be the same issue as in earlier thread but here’s the numbers.
Just updated to 6.0.1367, no other changes to setup. (with 120201-0 defns) under XP.
Scan speed plumeted down; found that . . .
scan of C: with normal mix of files, speed = 80 MB per sec (Disc access bound)
scan speed of folders with mp3 files, speed = 1.2 MB per sec. (Processor access bound)
Full scan of machine changes from 3 hours to (estimated) 100 hours.
Might I also add that with the new scan behavior Avast sometimes sees mp3 files with an added .zone.identifier extension name of which most of my mp3 files do not actually have said added extension names unless these are hidden in some way.
as I said at the start of my thread
“may be the same issue as earlier” (but of course it may not have been)
BUT
If you don’t like my thread why do you post to it (and bump it to the top)?
ALSO I think if an Avast Spokesperson had promptly told users there was a major problem with scanning mp3 (and, it seems, other media files) then a lot of posters would have avoided concern and investigation. Some users (see threads) have uninstalled and moved to other anti-virus programs.
