VGA goes down

Hey guys anyone heard of the following problem:

I’m running vista ultimate and avast 4.7 now at least once a day after a restart my vga subsystem goes down, and stops recognizing the monitor and i have access to only the min resolution, the only way to fix it is to tell avast to wait for all system services to load before loading itself and then it works again. Any clues… ::slight_smile:

Surely that should work all the time ?
If it were a services loading issue, if you kept that option checked in the Program Settings, Troubleshooting section.

Are there any error messages or entries in the windows eent viewer ?

Cheer’s man, i think its a BIOS thing, believe it or not, vista is saying that the BIOS doesn’t have an IRQ assigned for that device, but its intermittent, so i guess I’ll query ASUS about some bios updates for this board and vista compliance.

I just thought i test the waters so to speak to see if there was any commonality with people using Avast.

Cheers for the reply

Machine Spec’s: ASUS A7N Premium, 2GB corsair DDR800mhz, Nvidia GF6600GT, Onboard 5.1, Vista Ultimate 32bit, Sony DVD DL Burner, 1 x 200GB Sata, 1 160GB Sata Drive, Athlon 64 3500+,

No problem, sorry it wasn’t more positive only I have zero personal Vista experience.

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks man, it turns out avast thing is a coincidence, the problem stems from a lack of communication between a new update from Microsoft and Nivdia latest drivers, the nvidia driver was listed and optional and hence not installed with an update to vista core system that then cause the problem because system video drivers were one month older than required. Problem solved by uninstalling all nvidia drivers, monitor drivers and installing new one then new monitor then all was good.

cheers for the help
