Every time I try to view a video everything freezes. Nothing works, mouse, keyboard, nothing. After about 5 seconds the screen goes black and everything is locked up. Have to turn off (shut down via cpu button), turn back on. But each time I click on ANY video system locks up. No warnings, no messages, nothing, just freezes.
Windows XP Home SP3 always updated
Mozilla firefox 3.6.13
IE 6.0.2900 sp3
Google Chrome
Tried all three, same thing on all three.
Help!
Thanks
Did this start when you installed Avast, or when did it start? What version of Avast are you using?
What videos are we talking about here? Flash/Silverlight/Shockwave? If it’s youtube, it’s flash.
While I agree with janeway that you should update your IE to at least version 8 as version 6 is incredibly dumb and insecure these days, I doubt it will fix this problem since you’re having it with all three browsers.
How about playing local video with a media player that’s installed on your system, does that work ok?
Another alternative is to check for overheating as videos are cpu intensive
Yep, that was going to be my next post. I figured that I’d wait to hear the response about playing local media first though so I could narrow it down to a player/codec issue, or a hardware issue.
