When I right click on avast! Log Viewer in the blue ball down in the Taskmanager tray nothing happens.
How do I get to see the Log?

Is the process (ashLogV.exe) visible in the list of processes (in Task Manager, for example)?
If you try to run ashLogV.exe from avast folder, will it run?
Does this happen after booting?
Which skin are you using?
ashLogV is not running.
There are 5 processes running ASHDISP.EXE, ASHMAISV.EXE, ASHSERV.EXE, ASHWEBSV.EXE and ASWUPDSV.EXE
It runs but it leaves ghost images on the screen that can only be removed by reboot.
Does this happen after booting?Yes
Which skin are you using?Default I think. It is light grey.
Try this:
MENU, DISPLAY REMNANTS, LOG VIEWER Remnants, Graphics glitches, etc.
Whilst this is primarily for Sunbelt or Kerio Personal Firewalls it may well work even if you don’t use either of these firewalls. Also see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=37609.msg315764#msg315764
That was the fix I was looking for.
I hate Firefox but I like IE7 with IE7Pro and it could be that its right click Mouse Gestures causes a problem.
I only use the Windows firewall as I am well protected behind the built in firewall in my DSL router.
More importantly did it work ?
Perfectly 8)
Good news, I will bet you don’t use either Kerio or Sunbelt firewalls.
sorry to jump in someone else thread
i also have the same problem clicking on tray icon and to view log sometime does not works however running log viewer from avast folder works fine,
it also leaves gostly images on desktop mostly happens after VPS update
I dont have kerio but comodo firewall, here I would like to add this problem was present even before comodo was installed.( comodo was installed just a month back)
Can the solution offered in this update be used by anyone suffering with this problem
Regards
Adi
Yes.
Not a problem when your problem is directly related to the topic.
As Igor says, yes you can apply this fix regardless of firewall (it certainly won’t hurt), let us know if it works for you.
Ages ago I used to use Kerio 7.1.5 on my old AMD system but have long since sold it and I have no idea if it is still working or it has gone to PC Heaven.
Do you use any other security-related programs?
Thanks.
win xp sp3, comodp firewal 3.25.378(basic firewall only HIPS not installed)
applied this fix
so far it is working.
many thanks

Ah, sorry, this question was actually for YoKenny
I saw the Comodo module loaded in ashSimpl.exe process in your dump (and also McAfee SiteAdvisor).
I’m trying to find the connection between these two cases - i.e. what application may be the culprint.
Thanks for the help.
YoKenny, do you think we could ask you for an experiment?
We’re trying to find out what is the conflicting application. It’s either Comodo or SiteAdvisor.
To that end, it would be very useful if you could:
I’d think that uninstalling one of these should solve the problem. And the point is to find out which one it is.
Thanks
Vlk
Just Windows Defender and WinPatrol and I do not use Comodo.
I’ll un-install SiteAdvisor and the fix and reboot and see what happens.
I use IE7Pro as well and it uses right click a lot and that is when the ghost entry shows up.
This is getting quite complex.
I now have SiteAdvisor and Google Toolbar un-installed but I still have IE7Pro installed and I can view the Log without a problem so far.
