virtualization: strong HDD activity at app startup

just noticing some unusual hard disk activity when I start any app in virtual mode. Wasn’t like that last time I used the feature. I understand that data must be copied to the sandbox folder but still, that’s a bit annoying. This also slows down the start up of apps, and again, I didn’t notice any major delay before in virtual mode.

ps: off topic suggestion, could you introduce a “run virtualized” option also in Windows Seven taskbar buttons jumplist menu ? ;D thanks, may be in 5.1

edit: just to confirm IE/32 still crashing in virtual mode (I sent you a dump file a little while ago)

Hey Logos

About IE 32 crashing in virtual mode : Last week Peter Kurtin asked me to produce 2 logs with Sysinternals Process Monitor. One while running IE normal, and one while running in virtual mode ( untill it crashes ), so he could compare the logs. He didn’t ask for any further tests so I asume he is working on it

Hello Logos, what is the application name where you notice a big slowdown/hdd activity?

It's almost ready, will be available very soon.

pls wait for a new beta build tonight and confirm if it's still happening, thanks

OK thanks for the feedback, glad to hear that about the jumplist  As to IE crashes, np, I’ll test this beta when it’s there.

forgot to answer about my own started topic ;D : OK the apps, it’s any, Firefox, TweetDeck, Windows Live Messenger… but once started it’s OK, the app runs normally, the HDD activity is only during the start up.

Peter, what time can we expect the Beta ???

don’t want to start a new thread just for this: virtualization, for some reason, doesn’t appear in the context menu when right clicking a “skype” shortcut. It appears though when doing the same directly on the executable in the program folder, but then … things get a bit messy, works fine but many secondary empty red frames open and stay open on the desktop.

OK so no crash anymore with IE32 in virtual mode and v. 5.0.415

but the program still generates too much HDD activity when starting…and starting is also, as a result, too slow. I don’t think it’s swapping (to page file) but the copying of data to the sandbox folder to recreate the necessary environment for the program to run, that cripples a bit the startup process.
