Virus Alert after installing Visual Studio 2022 Update 17.14.12

Hello together,

after installing the above update, the Avast Engine (file protection) reports, that the singlefilehost.exe has infected by an trojan virus. Often times this should be a false positve and i am sure that this is the similar case. According to Virustotal only Avast and AVG reporting this as a virus. Do anybody has the same report on his system? My file definitions are current. Thanks in advance for report back.

First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

A screenshot of the Avast alert with the See details selected could be helpful.

A search relating to the file name this amongst other hits. This was on the Norton site and given this and Avast are part of Gen Digital are likely related for detections.

The name “singlefilehost.exe” might lead users to believe it’s a benign utility, making them more likely to run it without suspicion.

Microsoft’s .NET Single File feature allows developers to bundle an application and its dependencies into a single executable. Malicious actors have been known to leverage this for malware deployment, making it harder to detect.

Given the above, if you weren’t actually running this file it could well be considered suspicious.

Possible False Positive

  • New location to report both a False Positive and or a False Negative (for File or URL)
  • Choose Your Sample Submission Type | Avast
  • You won’t get a direct response but it should be analysed within 48 hours, if found to be false it will be removed.

False positive. The current file definitions are being corrected. Thanks!
