I have definitely had some type of virus that affected IE recently. I ran a full scan with AVAST (home edition, most recent version, db all updated) on my Windows XP System. However, after completing the scan, and successfully clearing up 3 viruses that were found, I cannot boot up my system.
I get to the login screen, add my credentials, press enter and then I hear the AVAST virus warning that a virus has been found. Meanwhile, my screen remains that blue color that I see just prior to completing the sign in process.
I’ve tried booting into safe mode and running a virus check (found 2 and removed) and then rebooting. However, same results.
Sure, thanks. I’ve attached it. The copy I’m giving you has only the recent info in it. I have been an AVAST customer (very satisfied) since 2004, so the log was kinda large…
If you have XP, vista32bit or Win2k, you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php.
Based on what was found in the warning.log, they might just have some friends along for the ride. After trying the avast boot-time scan try these tools.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later.
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
