Virus alert when visiting PayPal's "Contact Us" page

I’m trying to determine if there’s a real issue with PayPal’s “Contact Us” page, or if anyone else even experiences the same results I am.

I am running the latest version of Avast Home. The link causing the alert is:

http:// www .paypal .com/cgi-bin/helpscr?cmd=_help&t=escalateTab

You can get to this link by going to PayPal’s home page, then clicking the “Contact Us” link towards the bottom.

I get the same results using both IE and FF. I included a screenshot of what I’m seeing.

I asked a couple friends running different antivirus software, and they were able to visit the page without any alerts being generated.

I’m thinking it’s just a glitch with Avast, but I want to be safe.

When I connect to paypal I do so using the https page, https://www.paypal.com/ however the redirect on the contact us goes to the url you gave, please modify the link [url=http://http :// www . paypal.com/cgi-bin/helpscr?cmd=_help&t=escalateTab]http :// www . paypal.com/cgi-bin/helpscr?cmd=_help&t=escalateTab[/url], so the link isn’t active.

I checked it with DrWeb link checker and it didn’t find anything, given the URL location ‘PayPal’ I would say this is a false positive detection. I have submitted an email about it lets see if it is corrected soon.

Update, this would appear be a false positive, similar to another one re a paypal helpscr? link confirmed in another topic.

Now fixed by VPS update 0760-3.

I just forced an update of my definitions and tested. PayPal’s site no longer generates the alert. Truly excellent support.

I’ve been using (and highly recommending) Avast for 3-4 years now I would guess. I never used the forums before because I never encountered the slightest problem until today. This makes me all the happier. Avast is a wonderful, efficient product with awesome support on top of it. Great job to those of you making a difference.
