Virus Chest Full - Can multiple items be deleted

My dad recently installed avast at my recommendation. He had over 4000 various viruses, etc. on his computer. He is now getting a message (he tells me, he is 1000 miles away) that his virus chest is full. He can delete items, but only one by one. Is there a way to clean out the chest more rapidly? Thanks for any advice.

You can manually delete the files under Avast4\Data\Chest folder.
You can set how big the Chest could be into avast settings.
But, after all, 4000 virus… Do you really thing you could get daddy’s computer clean?

Hello beluga,

I agree with Tech here. This computer seems compromised, and a compromised computer cannot be longer trusted. Safe all the data you will not like to loose on backups or a storage device, and do a complete reinstall of the OS. I fear there is no other way around it.

Just select more items like you would in Windows Explorer and press delete.
As far as i remember it works just fine this way.

Yes, the simpler, the better. It should work. I’ve forgot it. Thanks RejZor.
Oh, again and again, please, add a feature to CONFIRM Chest items exclusions… clicking del and everything is gone, no way… We asked this feature more than once.

Welcome to the forums, beluga.

In other words, hold down the SHIFT key and click each item you want to include in the delete.

Sometimes, you can select the first item, scroll down the list somewhere, and then hold down the SHIFT key while clicking another item. The items in between the 2 clicked items should now be included (highlighted) for the delete. Otherwise, you get to click them one at a time.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.
