Virus chest - please help

The Avast antivirus found Trojans on my computer and I put them into the chest - as recommended. Shall I keep them in the chest? I am new to this. Please help!

You have done the right thing, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
What is the malware name, the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (malware name, C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

 Yes, keep them in the "Chest" ; however, "trojans" are best dealt with
 by antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s), such as the "trial" version of
 AVG Antispyware from www.ewido.net and/or the FREE version of
 SUPERantispyware from www.superantispyware.com . These 2 are the
 ones often recommended by malware-fighting Experts .
 Do you have any antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s) on your
 computer ? If yes, which one(s) ?

 Do you have a software firewall ? If yes, which one ?

I don’t have any antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN program(s) on my computer and i have the Windows firewall (I have XP). The only other program I have is ad-aware.

Well I would suggest you add one of the above (also see below) to compliment avast and improve overall detections.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it periodically.

Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.

Whilst the windows XP firewall is usually good at keeping your ports stealthed (hidden) it provides no outbound protection and you should consider a third party firewall.

Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (sensitive or otherwise, user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.

Zone Alarm free http://www.zonelabs.com works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface, however the latest version is becoming bloated with trialware. There are others, Comodo, PCTools Firewall Plus, Sunbelt Kerio, Jetico, etc.
