VIRUS CHEST

I have a pretty general question…

I just started using avast for the first time. I am running a scan now, several actually, and I am finding a lot of viruses popping up. Now, it recommends me to move to the “virus chest”, which I do. Once these viruses are moved to the chest are they no longer a threat? Or do I need to take further measures. Please help!

Thanks,
Julie

You have done the right thing, ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

Note there are three sections in the chest and the Infected Files section is the ony one to really concern you. The System Files section contains some back-up copies of important system files, which avast can use should the original get infected. The User Files section is where you can put files that you suspect may be infected and from here you can send them to avast for analysis.
