virus chest

Hi - I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to access the virus chest? I am a new user and can’t seem to find a message I need to retrieve. Thanks!

Right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select avast! Virus Chest (Infected Files section).

What is this message you need to retrieve ?

If it is an email I think you are in for disappointment as it is almost impossible to slot an email back within an email database file. It could even corrupt the the database file with the possible loss of emails.

So don’t do anything at this moment until you have answered the above question and why you feel you need to do this (e.g. your comment “I need to retrieve this”), considering it would have been detected as infected ?

When I right click the avast icon I cannot see Virus Chest as an option.

I am using Avast version 4.8 Home Edition.

OK it may be that I have modified my avast4.ini file to include that in the options.

This is a little more long winded but will get you their, right click the avast ‘a’ icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, Menu, Virus Chest.

You could edit C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\avast4.ini open it using notepad.
Find the [AAVM] section and add this line, ShowChestInMenu=1 on a new line.
Save and exit notepad, the avast self-defence module will ask for confirmation of the changes, answer Yes.

Example:
[AAVM]
ShowChestInMenu=1

That will then appear in the way I suggested in my first reply.

Thanks for that information. I get viruses so infrequently that I forget how to access things like the Virus Chest etc.

You’re welcome.
