Virus cleaning ability of avast.

I have several files,which are infected by Sality virus. I know that there is a possibility to clean the files,because Kaspersky 6.0(this is rather old version) can do it. And it would be valuable if avast! can do it also.

Yes Avast can Remove This Virus,
Avast anti virus provide schedule boot scan before window start. if your PC got infected by virus, try to run a schedule boot scan before window start. This is to make sure the virus can’t load itself into the system memory while window start.

Firstly, my system is 64-bit and i can’t do the boot-time scan. Secondly, I need a treatment, not a removing.

Define your problem properly, i can’t understand you want solution for what and what are your system specifications.

The boot-time scan isn’t available for 64 bit systems. Do you know what Sality is? This is a malware which append its code into an executable files. And avast! can’t delete malicious code and clean the files,while Kaspersky can do that.

I know dude and I solve this with Avast, I am not comparing Kaspersky with Avast both have its own virus-database, Yes Boot-time is not in 64 bit.
Treatment is just delete infected files other wise it will spread virus in other drive and in removable media too. It have a autorun.inf which helps it to spread when you open a drive.
goto RUN
type cmd,
then type cd\ ,
then type dir/ah
it will show you hidden files and also autorun.inf of SALITY :wink:

Hello Onix ,

No one is sure that the antivirus can really clean the files… yes, I mean clean not remove. What is the guarantee that after cleaning the file will be reverted back to its original condition?. This ain’t possible. Well, its possible only in case of a few viruses and those have been added in to the avast virus database. But not sality. Only a few variants may be cleaned by kaspersky too… not all. And the probability of getting a dependable file after cleaning is too less. So, this time… malware writers have won and we have lost. So better is to completely remove windows. Before that back up all files, make sure they are clean too. Format the hdd and install the os from scratch. That is the only way to completely get rid of this virus - believe me!. How much ever you talk about this stuff(sality) the only solution is to build from scratch. Peace of mind.

Hello, nmb!
My PC isn’t infected by Sality :slight_smile: The virus is on my USB flash drive and avast! deleted the main file of the virus successfully.But several files are infected :frowning:

I stated everything on a general basis. So that you know what one has to do when infected with sality. :wink:

No need to Format HDD, Just Format Windows Drive and re-install it, Then Donot open any other drive, Just install Avast update it and give it a boot time scan, It will clean other drive easily, I face same problem and this is the solution.

Do not do that unless you are sure that other drives are clean.

i want to ask some question also that if i get virus alert from avast that i have virus in c drive or any drive then wat i do?

wat will be the steps to remove virus without deleting my important files.

@ Krypton,

You mean sality?.

Generally, let avast! handle it. I mean if it asks to send it to chest, then send it. Sometimes if it is a false positive, then, by mistake if you have chosen the option as delete, then you cannot get back the file. So better is to send it to chest.

nmb

ok thanks but wat happens if i send any virus to chest?

does virus get deleted from my pc if i send in chest?

Instead of speaking with respect to virus, generally, if you consider a virus as a file,which they are, if you send the file to avast! chest, the file will still be available at the same place on the drive but it cannot be accessed. Until unless it is removed from the chest. Something like locking the file from being accessed.

When you re-install windows then that windows drive is clean let it be C: drive.
Virus Autoruns when you start Windows but Windows drive in clean now.
Virus Autoruns when you open a Drive, Noe C: drive is clean but not other drives so Don’t open Other Drives and Let Avast Scan and Handle other drives I am sure it will Clean D: E: etc drives.

@krypton

Move those files to chest if those are your important files, If those are like Autorun.ini, s08uy63gd.exe or any other like this then delete it.

so wat is the way to clean or remove that virus from my pc where it is infected.

@AmazingIT,

Never a peace of mind. I would not do that. 8)
