Virus crashed avast, how to fix

A virus has crashed my avast internet security. I did a system restore and the PC is working fine but avast is not working. When I opened the control centre under “summary” and “current status” it said “unsecured” and “urgent: avast service stopped”. I tried to download AVG so as to run a full scan of my system to hopefully get rid of the virus. But it would not install because it detected avast. I tried to disable the avast internet security but I cannot figure out how. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to download AVG so as to......
never install two AV, it will only create windows errors an false positive detections...

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always run update so you have latest database before you scan
click the remove selected button to quarantine any infections found
post the scan log here

Do I have to uninstall the avast internet security and then re-install. If I do that will it count as one of my 3 uses? I am leary of that because I have used 2 for sure (my kids may have already used the 3rd and last on their laptop). Ideally is there a way I could fix the avast internet security?

it means your license is valid for use on 3 computers for the amount of years you have paid for. You can uninstall an reinstall every day if you want, it has nothing to do with it.

Did you try malwarebytes ?

if after a malwarebytes scan (if it find and remove anything) and it still does not work, you may try removing and installing avast again
