Virus database does not update.

Hi folks. Avast automatic update is not working and when I manually download the update file and try to install it an error occours. The error message is shown in the image attached. I have installed avast today because I fear I already have an infection of some sort I did not have any antivirus before.
Is it possible that the antivirus gets affected by an onboard malware or virus when installed?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

Check this thread, someone have the same problem as you.

Thanks for the quick reply but the fellow in that thread didnt mention how exactly he solved his problem :frowning:

Ok, haven’t read all posts, but I guess you have tried the steps in the thread, but you can ask him what he did, or just post in the thread that you have the problems.

And also remember to search in the forum after the error message (SI:0x00000002). I have seen that error message now and then, but haven’t seen a super solution for the problem.

Hey I did the steps. They worked. I am sorry for my previous hasty answer. A trojan named Monga showed up in the scan… couldnt find much info on this one. Lots of infected files + a couple of other files found using some other virus scanners. I’m still not sure my computer is cleen but its more usable now :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks anyway.

You tend to get better results searching on the actual file name as there is no standardisation on malware naming so often the only common thing is the file name.

Though I found this when looking for win32:monga http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/d00cd946bdd7ee604395305b96a8558b now this gives lots of other aliases and avast’s win32:monga seems to be what it is calling Onlinegames alias and this one is by all accounts a pain.
