When my laptop receives virus database updates automatically the little audio pop up notifies me of this. It seems like more than a week since I have received any updates. I have been getting the green pop up notifying of the latest version of AVAST to install. As I have had problems updating before, I have hesitated to do so for the time being. However, now I am wondering if I am receiving database updates.
By not installing the updated AVAST, does this preclude the virus database updates.
Also, is there somewhere I can look in AVAST to see a log of virus database updates, similar to looking at the updates for WINDOWS VISTA.
Thanks.
LogViewer > Warning and Notice sections
Which is your virus database right now 090910-0 I suppose… In the About dialog you can see it (right click the ‘a’ blue icon).
Tech
File version:090910-0 (same you mentioned)
Warnings: last entry was 4/25/2009
Notices: last database update entry is 8/22/2009, since then just the new AVAST available notices listed.
Thanks
Hmmm… something fishy… the file database is updated but the log isn’t there…
At least, the final status of an updated database is what counts.
Can’t imagine why the update wasn’t logged…
Is the Log file size limit: 4096 KB and the slider on Notice?
Thats weird I am still getting mine
I am not great at avast problems
But i love this forum

All,
Today the database is 090912-0. But still no popup for update, just the new AVAST popup. Also in the notices, just the new AVAST popup noted.
I tried looking at the AVAST files to check size of log, nothing jumped out at me as being a logfile. I am not the strongest of PC users. Also, do not understand the slider on Notice suggestion. And yes, the forum is quite helpful and educational.
I wish I was not so tentative about installing the AVAST updates, but I remember having problems the last time I tried.
Thanks.

Just think about your AM/FM radio where you have to tune the dial to the station you want:
http://radio.about.com/od/radiohistory/a/aa032508a.htm
So you have to tune avast! to the updates you want.
Right click on the avast! blue icon in the active tasks area of the taskbar then Updating then iAVS Update then that should verify that the database is up to date.
Look in Program Settings that Update (Basic) that Virus database is set to Automatic
YoKenny,
I read the article on the radio dial. Yes memories, I was around back when you had to turn the big knob to get the station you wanted. Then eventually car radios got a few mechanical buttons for select stations. You would hit a button and get a thunk sound and hopefully a song in the top 40.
I did check what you suggested in iavs update. Also, in Settings, the virus database is set to automatic update. Program update is set to ask when update is available. In logging I see the slider, it is set to Notice and file size is at 4096 KB. So, even though I do not get the normal audio popup about database update, the database is being updated.
Thanks
