I read the article about that and Kaspersky update 20 times a week!!!
thats alot :o

Avast is among the fastest, but not as fast as Kaspersky.

But don’t worry about being “not protected” in time…Avast offers a strong heuristic option for the mail-scanner, and this is where most new virrusses (worms nowadays) enter first.

Also…There aren’t much “destructive” new malware’s coded and in the wild anymore these days. So infection (wich is always a sad thing), doesn’t mean aymore your pc is completely doomed.

Also i strongly believe that AVAST offers the most complete protection.

Waldo

Well i would like to see program versions used etc

but not as fast as Kaspersky.
or F-Secure I get 2 updates a day with FSAV

eSafe isn’t eSet. Nod32 isn’t actually on that list, because they update from within the program and do not offer a downloadable update. So they are excluded from all tests. I do find that suspicious, and i’ve NEVER trusted the NOD32 people.

Shady folks they are.

Kobra, thanks for the info, I deleted my eariler post

Well my bet would be that NOD32 is not there because Eset hates Andreas Marx [the author of these tests] (well in fact the feeling is mutual :)). Trust me, I know what Im talking about…

These tests are syntetic like 3Dmark is for 3D graphic cards and it doesn’t show real performance. Its the same with these virus tests. I get crappy score in 3D mark just because my FSB is low,but all other components are high grade. Its probably the same for antviruses. If some other component messes everything else you cannot be saved even with NOD32 or Kaspersky.

Ok little strange post, but i hope you got the point

Well in defense of Andreas Marx, many people don’t like Eset. Myself included in that mix. Without getting into details, suffice it to say i’ve found them less than professional in my dealings. But worse, I find their overall behaviour on the internet reprehensible! They have this inability to “Admit” that their product failed a test, admit something got through their product, and otherwise acknowledge their own faults. To me, that shows lack of profesionalism, and downright immaturity.

Anytime I see NOD32 score bad on something, I see them follow it up with a string of temper tantrum posts, chest beating, attempts to slam the author - bringing in his credibility to question, and whatnot. Worse, on their so-called official support forums, their behavior is rediculous as well! I actually had Eset tell me that a rebased/masked trojan downloader wasn’t detected on purpose because “Legit” programs could use that(completely untrue). WTF? Then when I proved to them they already had variants of that very same product in their database, they “Snuck” in definitions for my specific sample 9 days later - and didn’t even follow up their post with a note. Now thats just lame if you ask me.

Anyway, as a hobbyist AV tester/dissection guy, and reporter/submitter, dealing with AV companies for the last few months, nothing left a bad taste in my mouth more than the people over at Eset. Dealing with about 14 AV companies in various ways, i’ve found support either non-existant or superb, with a smattering of them all over in between. I’ve found some companies friendly, and open, and other companies unfriendly, rude, and sometimes misleading.

Hopefully Avast will be the former, and our relationship will prosper. So far so good. =)

PS: I’d post PC-Welts results, but his entire website seems to me misfunctioning lately… LOL
