Virus Definitions not uploading and are in a continuous loop

I installed version (premium) 21.8.2487 yesterday.

Then I manually pressed update on the Virus Definitions.

It’s been continually “updating” for 24 hours and nothing is happening. It’s in a loop of some kind which I can’t stop.

Also I can’t uninstall Avast because when I try I get a “setup is already running” message.

Help!!

I rebooted and it still is in a loop

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I ran the Avast Repair for 1 and 1/2 hours - nothing happened. I rebooted to stop the Repair Function.

When the computer rebooted - up came a notice to update the Avast VPN app. So I did. and Rebooted again.

When I did, I went to Avenue Anti-Virus and the continuous loop on the updating of the Virus Definitions had stopped and I was able to get it to update to the latest Virus Definition.
