Virus definitions updates

How is it,that Virus Definitions are not updated automatically?I have Avast Pro and I think this and other important issues merit automatic update, after all,one can miss the warning that appears (and DISAPPEAR AFTER A WHILE)?

They’re supposed to be automatic but right now every time the update is attempted I’m getting an “invalid file signature” error. I think maybe Avast is having issues. Try updating manually and see if it works.

Do you recive stream updates? … If so you have all the updates you need

@macko1944: New VPS updates are updated on a regular basis. It doesn’t happen everyday and as long as you have streaming updates (ticked) you should be good to go.

@robtgordon: Did you try doing a repair of avast and see if it will fix the issue. Sometimes the avast servers gets some issues. It has happened before and it’s very rare.

I get the same error, now I have the basic VPS 151229-1 and the latest version is the 151229-2, see here https://www.avast.com/fr-fr/virus-update-history

I think avast disorder.

My VPS update version is 151229-2 and streaming updates are on and everything is up to date. I even do a manual of VPS still no problems. May be their server having a few issues. Try to update later.

Downloading the latest vps was slow, but worked fine otherwise.
It can be there is a lot of traffic at the moment.
As Staticguy said, try it again later.

If things like this happen there is no need to immediately post about it.
First wait a few hours and see if the problem is gone or not.

My computer was logged off and on standby. When I logged back in, I got an Avast popup stating that my antivirus signatures were out of date and to click OK to update them. My VPS was at 151229-1. I closed the popup and then attempted a manual update of the VPS. It couldn’t update reporting an error.

I closed all running programs (Firefox and Pegasus Mail) and restarted Windows. When the machine restarted, the VPS updated to the current version, 151229-2.

I tried several times the update, because it kept appearing that it should be done.IT DID NOT WORK.I GOT THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE THAT WAS MENTIONED ABOVE.Anyway, these updates should be automatic.Few days ago I had the notice,I did update as requested and had to restart and did.Still, these are important issues enough to go automatically(except of course the restart).I use Win 7 (32)by the way and run the antivirus weekly.TRIED TO DOWNLOAD THE 2016 VERSION:NO LUCK!!!(should also BE AUTOMATIC,especially for us who paid for Avast).

I tried several times the update
Over what period of time ?
Anyway,these updates should be automatic.
The vps as well as the application updates are done automatically unless you changed it in the settings.
I did update as requested and had to restart
A vps update doesn't require a reboot, only a application update needs it.

Same problem here! Stream updates are active, but the error shows up…

Abwarten und Tee trinken, mehr können wir nicht machen im Moment.

Re-inserted my license, checked Settings, all is set Automatic. So I really do not understand what is happening.I hope Avast will take care of this.It seems the problem I have is far from unique.Thanks.

Supposedly resolved, response from an avast team member:

To all who encountered this issue: Could you please send me directly via e-mail the C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Persistent Data\Avast\Logs\Update.log file? Thanks!

Although downloading the vps was really slow, it worked for me.
If you want me to send the log as well, just let me know.

And to all others, (just in case) the log should be in one of the following folders:

  1. XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\report
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\

  2. Vista and later
    C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\report
    C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log\

EDIT:
Petr, asking to send the log by email is fine…
But eh…
Perhaps telling the people to what email address will make it easier for them
