when trying to update virus defs (defs.vpu), the server is “unreachable”.
Any way to fix this (program level is 4.8.1335)?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and do a manual update, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
Thank you DavidR
Problem fixed, but differently: Avast was set up to access the Net via a proxy, which, in my case, is not necessary.
Firewall is Zone Alarm. I first deleted all Avast entries, to no avail. ZA didn’t ask permission to do anything!
Thanks, just the same. ![]()
You’re welcome.
Well avast doesn’t set itself up to for anything, the web shield uses a localhost proxy to scan http port 80 content, before it is viewed on your browser. So outside of that no other change is made so that shouldn’t have any impact on updates.
The avast Program Settings, Update (Communications), Proxy button, is usually set to Auto detect (use Internet Explorer settings). So unless Internet Explorer is set to use a proxy then again there should be no changes made by avast. So this is very strange.
