virus descriptions

Hi, I’ve just installed Avast on my computer and found 2 win32:kuang2 infections. One in Program Files, and one in System Volume Info.
I’ve got 2 questions:

  1. Where can I find a description of this virus?
  2. How risky is it?

Thanks,
Adriana

Waht is the file name? You could submit the file to virustotal to confirm it is infected before taking any action other than sending to the chest. You can’t submit from the chest if you have already placed the file there.

Thanks.
But: I do’t have no Panda software on my computer, the virus was identified in a CoDec program and in System Volume Info. I’ve moved both to the chest, and doing some research now. Can avast mistakenly detect it in other programs besides the Panda antivirus, for instance?

And then Igor, I’ve checked the page you indicated, but no concrete info on the win32:kuang2. What is it exactly, what does it do once it gets into a computer? Is it a new virus or has it been around for years already?
Thanks,
Adriana

If you got the codec from some on-line free codec site it is very possible that you got an unwanted gift as this type of thing has happened in the past, the same is true of free screen-savers, they are often the attractive hook to get you to download and install.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.
