virus detected daily

I am running both EZ Anti Virus and Avast Anti Virus, and recently each morning I find a message from EZ that it has detected the same virus with the following message: Win32/Spax!generic
filename: unp165106400.tmp
location: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP_avast4_\

Is this file part of Avast Antivirus and supposed to be there? Or what?

The two antivirus will conflict this time and in the future (with on-demmand scannings and so on).
The temporary file is created by avast upon scanning and EZ is taking it as infected…
You need to choose, or EZ or avast…

When avast scans an archive file it need to be unpacked to be scanned, that is what you see in the file unp165106400.tmp the location of the avast temp folder C:\WINDOWS\TEMP_avast4_. Normally this location is cleared after a scan without detection, but EZ has effectively locked the file in this location, conflict between scanners.

If anything in that extraction were a virus, one avast would detect it, your problem stems from a second AV installed as Tech said scanning that unpacked/extracted file. Not only that the detection by EZ of Win32/Spax!generic points to a ‘generic’ detection (trying to detect multiple infections with one check), which can be more suspect than a specific signature detection.

Welcome to the forums, tkoock.

I hope you will understand and heed what Tech & David have stated above because this is what has happened. You have 2 av’s “fighting” over the same file. This leaves your computer less secure than just one av service.

Let us know if you need farther help in uninstalling one of the av’s … though it is my hope you choose to stay with avast.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

Not really. Antiviruses often take care about that in “first detect, first to take care of” style. The one which detects it takes full control over that file.
Unless they conflict by just co-existing together (very rare).

Unpacking the file could generate temporary files that are not handled as easy as you’ve posted… ::slight_smile:
