Virus detection query?

When Avast detects an infection does it count each bit of the malware as a seperate entity or just as one complete infection?

sorry if I havent phrased it right

now define bit
No it does not report every binary bit of a detection- that would be humongous

great question

Now does it does report each separate infected instance, registry entry, file?
Memory location?
I would hope so- if it finds all instances
but with malware morphing so rapidly take no chances
anytime malware is found I’d like a second opinion with one of the great on line AV’s
and an antispyware/ antimalware scan

I am not talking about blocked e-mail and downloads where nothing ever gets downloaded to the memory or hard-drive
Avast is VERY GOOD at this

what I mean by “bit” is the files that make up the whole infection, so does Avast clear an infection and label it eg adware-xl or does it treat each file as its own infection ie each file of the malware is logged seperate and labelled eg adware-xl

hope thats clearer

ps is Alwil going to detect more scumware/rogueware in future installments (perhaps broadening out in the future) as a lot of dodgy stuff is now classed as PUP’s (potentially unwanted programs) and some such as Zango dont get detected due to companies moaning about their companys software being labelled as “bad”

There are rumors of great things later this year
The definition of “anti-virus” is getting broader all the time

first part of post
anyone?

I could be wrong, but each file is labeled as a whole entity when infected, i.e., one infection per file.
Are you referring to any particular rogue program? Can you submit the file to virus (at) avast (dot) com and explain the dangerousness of it?

The rogueware part of the question was just asked to see if Alwil will be expanding into cleaning/removing these bad programs in the future kind of like they did when they incorporated spyware removal recently, I am not currently infected
