Virus found..DCOMbob.EXE

Husband scanned his PC and Avast came up with DCOMbob.EXE as a virus (I think it said in the notes it was a trojan)

It advised putting the file from C:\temp in the chest, so that was done and the file sent to Alwil.

What next is there to do…what about deleting the file from the temp folder?

Should we use a Trojan remover programme to get rid of it?

Some advice would be appreciated.

This may or may not be a false positive, you can investigate it usiing a google search and it would appear to be from grc.com for switching off the DCOM service to combat potential vulnerability.

I have just downloaded the latest version of dcombob.exe and it doesn’t cause avast to alarm - http://grc.com/dcom/. I would advise you get the latest version and see if that is OK and delete the one in the chest and I doubt that you need do anything else.

Are you using Windows XP?
If so, I’ll suggest you schedule a boot-time scanning:
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

Thanks for the advice…He is using Windows XPPro . I thought it was a false positive as I did install the prog. from GRC on his PC some time ago.

I will schedulae the boot scan as directed.

Cheers
