Virus has turned off Avast

Hey,I’m attempting to fix my home’s desktop pc,which would usually be fine, but there’s one problem. The virus seems to have turned off Avast, and is preventing me from opening it somehow.Which means I don’t have any information on the virus :-\

I do know where my brother has downloaded it from though, which may or not help. He rather stupidly downloaded the virus from a site, which advertised it as a game download.Don’t worry,it’s not a link to the virus itself, but to the page with the link to the virus,if that makes sense.I’ll put it again at the bottom of this post.

I’m really not sure what to do here.I’d prefer not to have to wipe the computer or anything,if that is at all possible.I’d appreciate any help you can offer

EDIT:I’m using Windows XP service pack 3

hey! first of please chance the link to the infected file to wxw instead of WWW so that others do have to become infected.
have you tried the repair option of avast?
if you can access your computer i suggest you try to run MBAB and SAS this to programs use to be recommended by users on the avast forum (using them myself to). if not you can try a rescue CD from Avira or drweb cureit or even bit defender to mansion a few but install the rescue disk from an clean computer. Good luck and write back if you get problems.

links to rescue cds: read, download, burn to CD( these steps is recommended from and clean computer), boot it from the infected PC

Alright so he downloaded what seemed to be a game ran to installer right? Then everything became screwy and now it have turned off avast? If its blocking it try a Hijackthis scan and post the log here.If it has truely disabled it try the repiar stated above me then try to reinstall avast under a different name( change avast_______.exe to 000.exe or something)Always be sure to run the the scan offline to prevent some chances that the virus may repiar itself.
