Virus in AVAST files?

here’s what I get when I boot up:

UNKNOWN ERROR
app cannot start local help file
c:\programfiles\alwil\software\avast\english\help\checklistsimple.chm

When I try to run a scan I keep getting meaasges asking me to skip a portion even though I don’t have those listed to scan ands then the start button won’t work.

I’m running XP with SP2

Does that file excist on your system in that folder?
If not try a repair of Avast
start > control panel > add/remove programs > Avast > change/repair

What type of scan? With what settings? What is the exact message? What OS?

Thanks Eddy, I’ll try to repair Avast that way.

I run the basic scan from the icon and set it to Thorough w/archive files, no media files (because I don’t have anything in A or the DVD) and scan entire C drive.
