Virus in Irfanview 3.95 Plugin?

Hey there,

Just a quick question to see if anyone has any comments on the matter. This evening my virus scanner (AVAST version 4.6 Home edition with VPS 0531-1 of 02-08-2005) detected a virus it identified as Trojano-1959 in the jpeg2000.dll file in the Irfanview plug-ins directory. I have Irvanview 3.95 with all plug-ins installed and as near and according to windows file system records the file is indeed the original file which as not been modifiied in anyway since it was installed from the plug-in installer package that was downloaded directly from the Irfanview website in February of this year. It would appear that this Trojan virus was added in the most recent VPS update that came out yesterday (http://www.avast.com/eng/vps_history.html)- which makes sense as to why it is only being detected now. I have checked both of websites (AVAST and Irfanview) as well as doing some Googling but can’t find anything indicating that this file is indeed either legitimately infected or is a false positive hence I was hoping that someone might care to comment in that regard. Regardless I will be upgrading my Irfanview installs to the latest version and then scanning them to see if this file continues to report as infected. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.

Thanks,

Hello

You can try to upload the infected file to virusscan.jotti.org or to www.virustotal.com to see if only avast! detecs the file like virus.
If only avast! detecs the virus that is sure a false positive.

Try to update to IrfanView 3.97 & plugins 3.97 first, then check again.

I have IrfanView 3.97 and full plugins for 3.97 and no virus detections, so I suggest you update as Spyros says.

Hey x_m_a_s, Spyros, and David R,

Thanks for the feedback - I’ve upgraded to Irfanview 3.97 and as you’ve advised am no longer detecting any virus’.
