I am using avast home edition 4.8 and run a full boot scan once a week and have had no problems come up. But for the past couple of weeks my hotmail account has been sending out emails to my contact list with weird attachments. I have deleted my contact list, I never use it anyway, but don’t know if that will be of any use. A couple of times while in hotmail I recieved a virus alert from avast but aborted the connection. I have run a full boot scan since then with no issues and I did a thorough scan of my local disk – only thing I came uup with was a decompression bomb in an HP games file. I did look that up here and it sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem so I’m not going to worry about that.
So what do you think is going on? Sorry if this is a repeat of other posts…
Well, you can follow general cleaning procedures… Would you mind if I repeat myself?
Clean your temporary files.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
Darn, Me too,
I awoke this morning and saw the damage… Everyone in my Hotmail Contact had a spam Viagra email sent to them…My Avast was active, but it did not see the virus/malware…
