"virus" in temp - maybe false positive

Hi, starting today, when we try to use Empire Earth by Sierra, We get the virus/worm warning that the file sintfnt.dll in the current user’s temp folder is a trojan. When deleted, this file often comes back the next time we try to run the program. Also, sometimes the system recycler files are warned about by avast shortly after the deletion. System restore has been temporarily disabled and that is not helping. avast did update today, perhaps this is a false positive in the latest detection package, or maybe there really is something wrong. I can not think of anything else to try, all ideas are welcome, and for the time being I am going to enable system restore.

Also - Avast did report a malware file along with an adware file in the system recycler files earlier today and claims that it moved them to the chest.

As usual, upload the file to VirusTotal and post the results.

I also suggest one of these antispyware programs

Ad-Aware Free
SuperAntiSpyware Free
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Spyware Terminator (exclude the crawler toolbar, add on, and the antivirus module)

I use spybot, spywareblaster, and adware by lavasoft, i will try your recomended virus tool now, thanks

alright, virustotal told me that avast and gdata list it as a trojan, and esafe lists it as a suspicious file, everyone else has no result.

This has already been posted, I’ve been having the same problem, this is a false positive and as misak has said it will be fixed in the next VPS update.

i noted the similarities, however i was not sure if it was the same situation, judging by the virustotal results i now know… that certainly is a great tool to have access to. Ihope I don’t need to use it again though.
