I see others have had the same problem as I. I also see that the general idea is to remove the temp files. My problem is that the folder and the files inside are marked as Archive, each time I try to remove them I am told access is denied. How can I remove these?
Here you can find a lot of suggestions to delete blocked files: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker
Of course, Unlocker is the main suggestion 8)
Files in use are usually protected by windows and can’t be moved, renamed or deleted.
You say you tried in DOS, was this a DOS/command window? In which case that won’t work as it will still be in use.
If you have XP, w2k, NT you could schedule a boot-time scan from within avast, otherwise, boot into safe mode and run avast in safe mode.
Hi Scott,
Malware in temp files will prevent them being deleted. Run Sysinternals Process Explorer: click on any suspicious processes and view the information in the lower pane. Look for any processes starting from a temp location.
If you find any, check out the process on Google: if you can’t find any reference to it (many malware names are random) or you find a reference saying it’s malware, use Process explorer to kill the process, run a HijackThis! and fix the entry for the process, reboot and you should be able to delete your temp files.
