Is there some way to remove urself from a virus mailing list?
My g/f is repeatedly recieving win32:netsky-b viruses in her e-mail and was wondering how she got on list/whatever.
Avast is intercepting them and delting them as it should but is there some way to stop them coming in the first place?

Netsky doesn’t select who to infect. It simply spreads to all strings found on system to be known as email address (just like MyDoom). So if her email is on someones infected PC than she’ll recieve such virus spam.
Tyvm…very informative…will endeavour to tell all on her mailing list that one of them (or maybe more) has a virus.

It might help if she replies to infected mails with mail containing link to Avast! Virus Cleaner tool and info which virus camed from that address (might be hard when real mail address is spoofed),but you can try. I did so when MyDoom was spreding and it helped to decrese number of recieved infected mails to minimum (1 infected mail in like 2 days).
I am afraid this will not help :-. Unfortunately, most of today’s viruses forge the sender’s emaill address so that it seems it comes from another person. Such warning mail is useless in this case - the user who is (probably) not infected starts to panic, the really infected user will not get the message. Sometimes you can track the sender from the complete mail headres (the Received items) but in most cases this is useless as well (you will see some dialup connection).
And Mydoom has a time limit built in - it stoped to spread massively after 12th February. Most today’s Mydoom come from the computers with wrong system time set…

Hard,you have to wait so others will protect/clean their machines or virus times out (if it stops on specific date,like MyDoom).

The good way is not to publish you email address (on web pages, to fill it to some suspicious forms and services etc). Also, some viruses try to “guess” the address, so for example james@domain.com is easy target for them…
Viruses usually search for the addresses in many files on the infected machine. So the only way is to minimize the chance your email will be found somewhere…

Yes, that is right. I was recently dumb enough to post my email address up on a microsoft bulletin board and my mail was swamped with bogus mails claiming to be from microsoft, and carrying the swen worm. ugh! I have a yahoo account and have had to change my address. I learned the hard way to not post your address anywhere, if you can help it.
