Virus / malware locating & removal help

I do wonder if I have too much antivirus / malware etc software running & that is why things are slow.. Do I need superantispyware, Malwarebytes & Avast running all the time, are they all ok with each other?
I would remove either SAS or MBAM as they both cover the same areas of concern
What should I do with the quarantined & virus chest files I have? I have just re scanned 7 of them from the virus chest & they changed to no virus so I guess they are ok to restore now are they? only one left then is WIN32:PUP-gen(PUP) which came from C:\System volume information

Mbam has one Backdoor Bifrose which came from C:\program files\Code Laboratories\CL-Eye Driver\CL-Eye Device Manager.exe

SA Spyware has a few including trojans. Again not sure what best to do with them?

Empty all the quarantines, for the one in system volume (restore point ) Then make a fresh one deleting the others

The Maxtor external hard drive particularly seems to stop any programmes I have running in there tracks for about 10-15 seconds every time it starts itself up, is this normal?
Yes as it is doing a self test at this stage
I noticed the desktop hard drive only has around 3% capacity left so I guess this won't help with speed, thinking I may move some pics etc over to the external drives.
You will ideally need 15% spare space to allow windows to move files around
I think I will format both external drives & start from scratch with them as I only really use them as backups. the Maxtor being connected constantly & the other just connected up once a week to back up. Is this an ok way to use them?
I only connect my backup drives when I need them ;D

If you haven’t yet removed OTL we can clear all the old system restore points

Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

:Commands [resethosts] [emptytemp] [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS] [Reboot]

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Oh, also the printer has recently started to change certain text on pages I print into gobbledygook, just random characters. It only seems to happen if I set to print say 4 copies of a page & I close the page before it has completed printing them. it will do it to any that still haven't printed after the page is closed.. Any idea what that's all about?
What printer do you have and is it when you print from all sources, or just specific ones like Firefox ?

Oh dear!! Have just set OTL running, it says killing processes. DO NOT INTERUPT…
& the computer has frozen. When I move the interface it leaves multiple trails but everything has stopped including the clock!! What’s the plan now?

OK that is MBAM stopping it, sometimes it just refuses to stop, even when asked nicely ;D (cleartemps command stops all running processes)

Stop OTL and run this script

:Commands
[resethosts]
[CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
[Reboot]

Ok so that’s worked now, just rebooting now.

Do I need to create new restore point now then?

Which would I be better keeping, MBAM or SAS. Both are pro versions with lifetime subscription.

The printer is a brother MFC620CN. I’m not totally sure but I think it maybe when I print from PDF complete.

Think I might keep the maxtor drive connected & transfer as much as I can from the desktop to free it up a bit & just use the other as a backup.

I also have Ccleaner which I use about once a month to clean up & also the registry cleaner. Is this ok to keep using?

The [clearrestorepoint] command set a new one and deleted all the old ones

Yes continue with CC it is just not as effective as the OldTimer tools, but with MBAM on your system the use of it would be debatable

One possible solution for the printer problem

This is what worked for me:

On the PDF - File, print, advanced, check “print as image” & set to 150dpi, ok, ok.

Originally I checked the box & set @ 350dpi. It worked, but every time I waned to print I had to go in and uncheck, then recheck the box - what a hassel! If I didn’t it would just print blnk pages. 150 dpi is fine & it works every time without going through the same process all over again.

Of the two anti malware programmes… At the moment I am biased toward MBAM but things do change

OK so maybe if I keep SAS on the computer but just don’t run it, would that be ok or is it best to uninstall it altogether?

Finally then I’ve attached a pic of my c drive & the process we’ve gone through has produced the arrowed files, do I need to keep any of them or can they all be deleted now?

Run OTL and press cleanup they should then disappear

There is a small overhead in that SAS will start a driver each time the computer starts, but it should be unnoticeable

Well that should about do it then. Thanks a million for all the help

My pleasure … Keep safe
