Virus not detected by Avast

Hi

A colleague of mine has one of those worms that hides all your files on your USB flashdrive when you access it. I found a suspicious file on the drive and I’ve uploaded it to Virustotal: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/7fb6a6dfa0fa85021e7831e9a0f129fb3b4ea376b325825225569d0b4da85347/analysis/1439981250/

I’ve tried uploading it via the Avast program, but I don’t know if it’s actually sent it since I’m behind proxies and firewalls on campus.

Can somebody at Avast maybe confirm that they’ve received the file?

What else can I do to assist in having this virus added to the database?

Thanks

You can report it here: https://www.avast.com/contact-us.php?subject=VIRUS-FILE

or here https://support.avast.com → avast virus lab if you use this i think you recive a mail

recomended tool to protect against this. MCShield http://mcshield.net it is free, and install and forget
it does not use any system recours as the program is dormant and wake up when a USB storage device is plugged in
it only target those type of malware that use USB device to spread and it only scan root of the device, meaning if you plug in a full 1TB USB HDD it will not scan all files on it, that is for your AV to do

Thanks Überevangelists :stuck_out_tongue:

I do run McShield on my laptop which I used to diagnose the flash drive. It’s an awesome app, just wish it could get through the campus firewall (I’m guessing it doesn’t update through port 80) for updates.

well updates are very rare (once a month maybe) as it mostly manage to do its work without signatures
