Last time I scanned my c: drive with Avast 5x, free – it displayed virus notification screens, as it found a suspicious file. This meant I had to watch my screen for perhaps a couple of hours, to respond to each virus notification screen.
Will the current Avast Free, notify of viruses and request actions – at the END of its scan? If so, I need watch my screen only at the end of an Avast scan.
The free version of avast5 unlike 4.8 home will continue with the scan and at the end of the scan you will be notified of all detections.
You can elect to have avast Automatically apply actions during the scan - Scan Computer, Quick/Full System Scan, etc. More details, Settings (see image). There are a number of automated actions which can be applied, up to three (1st - move to chest, 2nd - xx if 1st fails, 3rd - xx if 2nd fails, etc. etc.). When you check this option you get another section to choose 1st, 2nd & 3rd actions for Virus, PUP and Suspicious detections.
You have to exercise care if you change any of the default settings as they are set to avoid serious damage to your system.
If I read correctly for Avast 5, in the Help section, it’s been awhile, isn’t the default set to “take no action?” (which means that choices are given after the scan has completed?) If not, what is the default action, and what will “take no action” do?
The option I showed as far as I’m aware isn’t the default, so it wouldn’t take any action directly. As I said you can elect to have avast take actions automatically.
I don’t have that option checked as I don’t like automated actions, never have, I prefer to be the one making the decisions on my system. However, there are many that don’t feel comfortable making the decisions.
