I have a virus on my pc, I’ve downloaded adwcleaner then gmer then Farber Recovery Scan Tool but now I don’t know what to do after downloading it.
Follow instructions here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0
Attach Malwrebytes and OTL logs
But can’t I just carry on from what I’ve already downloaded instead of downloading more things
You can…if somone give instructions for how to run and use them…
So i gave you link to tools and instructions used in this forum
Use FRST initially
[*]Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
[*]Press Scan button.
[*]It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
[*]Please attach the log back here.
[*]The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
Logs
Did this infection occur after you plugged in a phone or USB ?
Download the attached Fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that
THEN
Download MCShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/mcshield%20unhide.JPG
Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan
Then get the log which will be located under the logs tab on the main page
And post that
It started after I plugged in a USB
OK it was the USB that was infected, ensure that you use Mcshield on that one
Mcshield log
Log of another usb that was infected
How is the computer behaving now ?
It seems like everything is ok but how can I make sure that the virus is gone.
I believe it has gone but to double check could you run FRST once more please and attach the log
FRST log
Thank you very much for your help
Looks good to me are you experiencing any problems ?
No I’m not. Thanx
In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way
Subject to no further problems
I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems
Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

: Keep Java Updated :
WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
