Virus protection while upgrading to Windows 7

I have a computer using Windows Vista and I intend to upgrade to Windows 7.
I have installed Avast version 5.0.545. which is supposed to be compatible with Windows 7
During the upgrade it will be necessary to be connected to the internet.
Questions:

  1. Does Avast need to know the operating system?
  2. Will Avast provide protection during the upgrade to the new operating system?

I suggest you uninstall the antivirus while upgrading the OS.
Stop all other programs and do not browse after you do so.
Reinstall it after that. Run a full scan :wink:

Anyway, from Vista to 7, you can even test if you can upgrade the OS with the antivirus :wink:

If at all possible (and if you have a full retail version of Windows 7,) I would highly encourage you to back up all your files and install the OS from scratch. “Sandwich” installs aren’t always successful. :slight_smile:
