virus question

hello. I have a quick question . I am running Windows 7 and Avast Internet Security. I just have a general question regarding emails and viruses. I check all my emails through the web (via yahoo/hotmail/gmail). I had a couple of family/friends with what I suppose is a virus on their computers. I have received various emails from these family/friends and opened their emails through the web thinking it was an actual email from them. The emails end up being links to other websites. Can me opening these emails via the web, but not clicking the links, put a virus on my computer? Just wondering.

I run a scan after i realize its not from them and avast doesn’t find anything, but just wondering if my computer has been compromised and if i need to change all my passwords.

thanks in advance.

No

check your computer for malware with

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
after install click update so you have latest database before scan
run quick scan and click on the remove selected button to quarantine anything found
you may post the scan log here
