VIRUS- Ran Avast in Boot up now laptop wont start!

Please help me! I had a virus, i ran Avast and finnally was able to get it to run in the boot up mode, then my husband shut my laptop whe the scan was not finished, my laptop does not start up now. What can I do to get back to what I was doing, or back into windows? Please help!!

There’s limited options following such an action, although, to be fair to your husband, depending on the malware, it may not have been possible to boot the laptop anyway. (I’m being a little generous; shutting it down while a scan was running and malware active was fairly dumb.)
Try to reboot into “last known good” configuration. See instructions for rebooting into safe mode.

One of the options that will (hopefully) appear will be “last known good configuration”.
Try that.
If it doesn’t work, it may be possible to boot from a BART cd. There are several free offerings, Avira make one, it’s the fifth download on this page. You’ll need a healthy computer with a CD/DVD burner, to burn the disk and then run it in the sick laptop. From that web page:

Avira AntiVir Rescue System
The Avira AntiVir Rescue System a linux-based application that allows accessing computers that cannot be booted anymore. Thus it is possible to repair a damaged system, to rescue data or to scan the system for virus infections. Just double-click on the rescue system package to burn it to a CD/DVD. You can then use this CD/DVD to boot your computer. The Avira AntiVir Rescue System is updated several times a day so that the most recent security updates are always available

thank you! its back up and running now, posessed but at least its working again.

OK, what did you do to get it going, what was found, and in what way is it “possessed”?
Sounds like there’s more work to be done, here.

probably the virus is still there as the scan was first interrupted, but she’s just happy that she could boot, probably with “last known good” as you suggested…anyway I hope she’ll do a scan again, fully this time
