Virus Recovery Database Generator, how long does it take to generate?

Hi,

I am running version 4.81368 and have my virus recovery database generator set to generate only when my screen saver is running, (which is not often.) I went ahead and selected the generate now button off the right click menu from the task bar. Another icon will come up and start spinning in my tray, but I can’t seem to be able to get a progress bar off of it.

How long does it take for this to generate the database? Will it tell me when it’s complete, and the most important thing is that I am on dial up, so do I need to be online to generate the database?

Thanks

No, and VRDB is not used in avast 5, it is old tecnology

Personally, I’d disable it. It is only able to store information concerning a certain number of files in case of virus infection, and these days the number of times it might be able to save you from same would be a very low percentage, compared to when it was in it’s prime.
(Where it might be able to restore a clean version of an infected file, the “repair” option is available.)
Most infections these days are either so virulent, such as Virut/Vitro (polymorphic aggressive file infectors that pretty much destroy everything) or trojan/rootkit- based (the entire file is malicious, and no repair is possible) that having an up to date VRDB won’t help, I’m afraid.

I’m going to be upgrading to version 5 very soon.

Welcome
