Virus scan causes Blue screen

Every time a virus scan starts I get a blue screen which shows:
StopCode: Driver IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
What failed: ataport.sys

I’ve tried repairing Avast, uninstalling and reinstalling Avast with no change. I’ve run chkdsk. I’ve tried restoring the system. All without success. Below are files related to the crash I have found. Any help appreciated.

The dump file:

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premium)
  • Which version/build of Avast…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

It seems to be related to the ATA port on the motherboard. I’d make sure the latest chipsetdrivers etc. are installed. Maybe that will help.

I’ve used Avast driver updater to update all drivers and I have installed the latest Windows and Avast Premium updates. The bios is the latest version. I’m still getting a blue screen any time Avast starts a virus scan. Other functions with Avast like the driver updater, and Avast Cleanup run with no problems. Any help appreciated.
