Every time I select “Start avast! Antivirus” the splash screen comes on for a few seconds and then disappears without bringing up the Enhanced Splash Screen. This started over the weekend, and nothing I do can start the scan. Opening the executable file produces the same result. When I activate Memory test on start up, the initial splash screen remains as the memory is tested, but when it is finished, no further scanning occurs. Sometimes at shutdown, the Enhanced Splash Screen appears, only to be removed as the computer shutdown. Any suggestions???
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
Is there anything in the avast log viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), error, warning, notice, etc. ?
Are you using the Trial version? How long since you’ve installed?
If you run ashSimp2.exe, does avast start?
I am using the paid version. Both ashSimp1 and ashSimp2 bring up the basic scan program and allow scanning. In Add/Remove, when Repair is selected, the program runs and finishes with “Product has been updated.” Is this what is supposed to happen, or does the program need some sort of repair???
Another problem involves the Scheduler. When I open “sched.exe”, a window flashes on and off my screen. I am unable to see it or schedule a scan.
I would prefer to use the Enhanced Interface when running scans. What can be done to bring this back???
Update: Yesterday, I opened Task Manager, ended all non-System processes, ended Task Manager, chose to Turn Off the computer, and the Enhanced User Interface popped up!!! I ran a complete scan, and allowed the computer to finish its shut down. This morning, after turning on the computer, the scan after boot opened, the Enhanced Interface appeared after the initial tests were run, and I was able to run the scan with the Enhanced Interface. Any speculation as to why all this happened???
Thanks for the update, unfortunately I can’t hazard a guess as to why it happened. My only thought a possible clash, but after shutting down non-system processes it may have cleared any clash/conflict. However, it shouldn’t have had any lasting effect especially if you restored these non-system processes, so still a mystery, bah, computers.
You can schedule from the Enhanced Interface, right clicking a task and choosing properties.
Or going to Scheduler folder.
If you want to use sched.exe program, open a command windows (Start menu > Run > cmd).
